BECOME A VOLUNTEER

You don't have to be involved financially to help make a difference. The Pikes Peak Challenge relies heavily on community volunteers to help provide a safe and enjoyable event. Spanning two days, the Pikes Peak Challenge utilizes volunteers in several areas.

Pre-Hike Rally

Date: Friday, September 10, 2010
Location: United States Olympic Complex
Details: Volunteers are needed to help set up for the Pre-Hike Rally Dinner, Dinner Service, Clean Up, T-shirt and Prize Distribution and Retail Sales.

Hike Day

Date: Saturday, September 11, 2010
Location: Manitou Springs Memorial Park
Details: Volunteers report at 4:00 AM to assist with participant check in, T-shirt and prize distribution, traffic control and general assistance.

Transportation

Date: Saturday, September 11, 2010 (hike day)
Location: Pikes Peak Highway
Details: Morning Shift Drivers (4:30 AM to about 11:30 AM ) are needed to transport participants from check in at Manitou Springs Memorial Park to the trailhead on Hydro Street in Manitou Springs. Volunteers need to be at least 23 and will be driving 15-passenger vans. You need to have a clear driving record with no DUI or DWI violations for the past five years. You will also need to be available to attend a Driver's Training session (Date TBD.)

Afternoon Shift Drivers (11:30 AM to the end of the event at approximately 6:30 PM) are needed to transport participants back down from the summit of Pikes Peak to Manitou Springs Memorial Park. Volunteers need to be at least 23 and will be driving 15-passenger vans. You need to have a clear driving record with no DUI or DWI violations for the past five years. Volunteers need to be comfortable with mountain driving in all conditions. It is mandatory that all Afternoon Shift Drivers attend a Driver's Training session! (Date TBD.)

When volunteering as drivers, please consider assisting with van pick the day prior to the hike and for van return the morning after the hike.

Trail Staff

Date: Saturday, September 11, 2010 (hike day)
Location: Along Barr Trail
Details: The Pikes Peak Challenge staffs Barr Trail at seven different check points to assist hikers on their ascent to the summit. Interested volunteers need to be comfortable working at altitude for approximately 12 hours during the event. Hiking experience, Wilderness Medical, EMT, Paramedic, First Responder or First Aid experience a plus.
