Three years ago, my brother, Kellen, was in a terrible car crash that left him with a traumatic brain injury, unable to move, talk or care for himself. But you’ve heard that story. Let’s talk about Kellen now.
In the years since, Kellen has been forced to relearn so many skills, skills he continues to work on and perfect. He lives in a group home with other people with brain injuries. He cooks, paints, does yoga, goes to church, completes his chores as an active member of his house and makes the same dumb joke at the expense of his sister that he made before his TBI. (My response remains unchanged: annoyance.)
In short, he shows perseverance, strength and courage as he moves forward. I am very proud of him.
The Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado is instrumental in helping families like ours navigate their new normal. BIAC has trusted staff who will listen, understand their situation, and provide them with solutions to help navigate their path to recovery.
There are ore than 500,000 adults who have sustained a TBI and are living with a disability in Colorado and almost 5,000 individuals are hospitalized each year.
Please consider supporting the BIAC and Kellen, as we walk another year.
