On September 7, 2019, I will be participating in the Pikes Peak Challenge. This challenge raises funds and support for the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado (BIAC). I have treated many patients over the years that have had a TBI (traumatic brain injury) or cared for their family members. Many of you may have had the same experience. This will be my first Colorado 14er. I am working really hard to achieve this challenging goal.

I have joined Team Kumi, which is organized by my friend Donna Coto. Donna’s friend Kumi was hit by a drunk driver in their senior year of high school, and she has been living with a brain injury in a nursing home ever since. This is the 11th year for Team Kumi and last year they raised over $15,000 for BIAC! I am so excited and honored to be a member of this amazing team.

Brain injuries are so prevalent and so devastating to not only the individual who had the injury, but also their families. Funding is critical for BIAC to continue to support survivors in our state which is why I am reaching out to family and friends to share my exciting commitment to participate in the 2019 Pikes Peak Challenge Summit Hike. When I finish, I will have hiked 13 miles and 7,400 vertical feet to the 14,115 ft Pikes Peak Summit. Last year $225,000 was raised to support the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado! This year we hope to surpass that number.
