On September 6, 2014, I will ascend to the summit of Pike Peak along Pikes Peak Highway, in my manual wheelchair, to support the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado. When I finish, I will have rolled 13 miles and 7,400 vertical feet to the 14,110 foot summit of Pikes Peak.
Like my disability journey thus far, I am not doing this alone. I have assembled a team of family and friends to join in on the fun, and when we reach the summit we will join others who will hike the mountain in celebration of brain injury awareness. WeCan is our team name. We selected that name as it’s true…together, WeCan.
This will be an incredible challenge considering the altitude, possible weather conditions and the steepness of the road. However, all that pales in comparison to what persons with disabilities, particularly, survivors of a brain injury face every day. In Colorado alone there are over 200,000 individuals living with the effects of a brain injury and there are 5,000 new cases are reported every year.
The Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado is dedicated to serving individuals affected by all forms of injuries to the brain such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, tumor, anoxia and infection. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for survivors by connecting them with resources to help navigate the path of rehabilitation.
Thank you so much for your support! Without you, the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado cannot offer the much needed services to the brain injury community in Colorado.
