Dear Friends and Family!
Where did the time go?!?!? I can’t believe the 2016 Pikes Peak Challenge is just two weeks away! This year the Pikes Peak Challenge Summit Hike for Brain Injury Awareness is on Saturday, September 10. This will be the sixth year that I have participated in this wonderful event and I am very excited! As in years past, I will be hiking Barr Trail to the top of Pikes Peak. When I finish, I will have hiked 13 miles and climbed 7,400 vertical feet to the summit to join other hikers and supporters in celebration of brain injury awareness and prevention.
As I reflect on the past five years participating in this event, I am impressed with just how many people I know that have been affected by a Brain Injury. When I started, it was for the daughter of one of my closest friends who has an acquired brain injury. This event became even more personal and meaningful when I was reminded that my cousin, Troy, suffered from a traumatic brain injury. Just recently, my best friend reminded me that his cousin also suffered a traumatic brain injury several years ago. I have come to truly appreciate just how much our lives can be impacted by those around us who have suffered a traumatic brain injury. All of their stories are truly inspiring and motivating. They are a testament to the unconquerable human spirit and the difference that friends and family can make.
It is for these reasons that this particular event has come to mean so much to me. Each of you has been a part of something that I believe is truly noble and your love and support motivates me each year to hike again. Each of you has an incredible story and over the past five years we have created an amazing story together that I will always treasure. Every one of you has been truly inspiring to me and I cannot thank you enough or express how much this has meant!
Every dollar makes a difference and I appreciate any help you can give. Last year, together we raised a total of $1475.00! This year, I am not setting a specific goal. The amount that we raise is not as important to me as the opportunity that everyone has to help and increase awareness. Whatever you feel you are able to contribute makes a huge difference towards this end. Thank you for making a difference in my life and in the lives of Brian Injury Survivors everywhere!
I Love You All!
