My name is Maria N. Martinez I am 97. In 1979 age 59 my brain suffered a hematoma, which left me with a section of my skull being removed and a stroke. It weaken my left side, loss of short term memory, confusion and rollercoaster of mixed emotions. I was also coping with being visually impaired. The doctors said I would not improve. Mama said “NO”. Mama will be 98 when she does her 3rd Manitou Walk.
Mama took small steps and continue to rehabilitate at home as there was no referral to stay in a rehabilitation unit. The support of her husband and children gave her hope. Mama’s strong faith and determination she was able to walk, talk and began to return to her independence.
So why Take the Challenge because 500,000 individuals live with the effects of brain injuries in the state of Colorado. The Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado is the go-to resource for help and services for survivors of an injury to the brain, their families, and providers. Through guidance, resources, support and education, they seek to facilitate lifelong growth of Coloradans affected by an injury to the brain.
Last year $275,000 was raised to support the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado! This year we hope to surpass that number and raise $300,000. Can you help us reach our goal?
