Hi there! My name is Ben and I’m traveling from Wisconsin to take part in the Pikes Peak Challenge Summit Hike in support of the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado (BIAC). This is a 13 mile hike with 7,400+ feet of vertical gain up the Barr Trail of Pikes Peak in Colorado, summiting at 14,115 feet – my first fourteener!
Though this will be a great challenge for me, I wouldn’t be participating were it not for the challenges faced by those with brain injuries caused by trauma, tumors, anoxia (low oxygen), stroke, and other causes. Service members, the young and the elderly, those involved in automobile, sports or other related accidents are just some of the many who may be affected. This hits especially close to home as I have a cousin who, nearly a decade ago, fell victim to a severe anoxic brain injury. He and I were close friends growing up and I only became aware of the multitude of tragedies by being exposed to his own.
Thus, I am here to help him and those like him who struggle with challenges many of us could never understand and hopefully never will have to understand.
Thank you so much for your support! Without you, BIAC cannot offer much needed services to the brain injury community in Colorado.
